IS INDIAN MEDIA HEADING TOWARDS CULTURAL VACCUME ?

Indian Media:Its Social Obligation v. TRP

On one fine evening i was watching some news channels in quest for news. Previous day a boy was killed by Tiger in Delhi zoo. What was the reason behind that accident? Who were responsible for the accident? Was it possible to save his life? These are the question to be answered after inquiry  but certainly some other questions related to incidence troubled me and  forced me to raise these questions infront public through my blog. The questions were, what is the role of media in our society? Media has any role in building a nation or not? Is media really fourth pillar of democracy? And the answer of these questions were not encouraging when i tried to answer those in context of Indian media. In this particular case media seemed to be trying to sketch TRP. A case which demanded a all together different role from media, it acted reverse . Where media was required to contribute in the inquiry and find out the culprit and create pressure to punish them. Media on the contrary did some thing else they used the video clip(I am finding it difficult to understand who the hell shooted  these videos, our society has become that insensitive? that is a different discussion, so leaving that) and the clip was on Air till the next day and was broadcasted with different headings. Anchor seemed to be trying to create a sensational thrilling program out of the real mishap. How sad is it? Where Indian Journalism is going.
I was delighted to see the role of media before Parliament Elections, where they contributed in the festival of democracy by performing the role assigned to them and certainly the rise in polling percentage must be credited in the accounts of  youth and media. Social media also proved to have acted as platform for discussing the worth of a candidate and a party. But today it seemed to me that media is still trying to cash the popularity of Our Prime Minister and has become insensitive enough to cash the end of a life even. It is unfortunate. But we cannot blame media alone as media project only those stories which are liked by people of this country. So till Indian audience will continue watching Big Boss and Roadies where one is full of obscenity and the other is dictionary of abusive language, till we cannot expect change in TV programs or in the approach of media. Till Indian audience will continue searching reality in TV we will see media trying to make stories in utmost mishap/accident even of death.
